1. Quotes:
“Happiness is the experience of loving life. Being happy is being in love
with that momentary experience. And love is looking at someone or even
something and seeing the absolute best in him/her or it. Love is
happiness with what you see. So love and happiness really are the same
thing... just expressed differently."
-Robert McPhillips
“I am free, no matter what rules surround me. If I find them tolerable, I
tolerate them; if I find them too obnoxious, I break them. I am free
because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do."
-Robert A. Heinlein
“Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own
heart. Who looks outside, dreams, who looks inside awakes."
-Carl Gustav Jung
2. Why Is There A New Age Movement
Welcome to part 5 of the 7-Part New Age Series. If you are new, or if you missed any of the previous parts you can access them here:
New Age Movement
There are many answers to this question. Many people believe the reason for this movement is that we are being forced to become aware. Because of all the damage we have caused to the environment and all the fighting that is going on in the world. Usually in times where we are facing a lot of stress and worry, people move towards spirituality. We certainly are in one of those periods of time, although it is not as severe as it has been in the past.
The two more common answers among new age people, are the coming of the new age energy/consciousness and/or the coming of the Age of Aquarius. I will be detailing both of these below. But before I do, I wanted to say that I believe that all of the above answers are each a part of the reason why there is a new age movement.
Age of Aquarius
Personally I just know the basics of the Aquarian Age, therefore I don’t feel right teaching someone about it. Therefore I will give you the links to the best, informative websites and resources I have found on the Aquarian Age. I really recommend you take the time to go over it, especially the essay by Elsa Glover. You can read it here:
http://www.whatismetaphysics.com/aquarian-age.html
New Age Energy/Consciousness
This is very closely related to the Age of Aquarius, but it is slightly different in origin.
Under this belief/idea, it is believed that this new age energy is coming, which will make it easier for everyone to access his or her infinite abilities. It is believed that it will cause a great spiritual awakening. It is also believed that the world was supposed to end around the year 2000, as was stated in many prophecies and legends.
But, as a collective consciousness we decided to keep this experiment that we call physical life going on. Thus, we put off the end of the world, and we decided to have a great spiritual awaking, in order to take us off this death course we had put ourselves on. In order to keep this human experience going, we had to bring in the New Age. The cause of this new age would be an energy/consciousness that would allow us to have access to our inherent abilities and infinite knowledge. This energy is now in the process of coming to us, and it can be easily felt and seen all around us. Along with this energy will come new age children (indigos, crystals, rainbow, blue, peace-makers). The new age energy/awareness is supposed to fully arrive in 2012. Therefore, the world will keep on going, and we, as the human consciousness will continue to develop.
How Is The New Age Movement Doing Now?
You can already see/feel this new age energy/consciousness and/or the Aquarian Age coming through us. More and more people are becoming intrigued by metaphysics/new age spirituality. People are being guided towards personal/spiritual growth. More and more new age children are being born every minute (if you don’t know what these are, do not worry I will go into more detail on them later).
New Age is already considered the third largest religious group in the world, and is growing at a phenomenal rate. That is, if you can call them a religious group (which they really aren’t). Once again, it is just a broad group of open-minded people moving towards personal/spiritual growth.
Earlier this year, when I set up this website www.what-is-metaphysics.com, I noticed this online metaphysical/spiritual community is not only attracting people who have been studying metaphysics and spirituality for a long time, but it is also attracting the average person who spends very little time on the subject. More and more people, all over the world, are becoming intrigued by metaphysics and new age.
In 1994, the Gallup people asked Americans whether they felt the need to experience spiritual growth. Only twenty percent said “yes.” In 1999, they asked again—and a surprising seventy-eight percent answered in the affirmative. This was an astounding fifty-eight percentage point gain in five years.
Vast amounts of people are beginning to practice metaphysical techniques as well. Lynn Lehmkuhl, editor of Yoga Journal, said in 2005 some 16.5 million people practice yoga in the United States, which is up forty-three percent since 2002. Also, the 2003 Time cover story, “Meditation,” declared that ten million American adults say they meditate, which is twice as much as a decade ago.
So as you can see, it is already having a huge effect on many people. But there is only one thing that is certain: everyday, more people are beginning to work on their spiritual development. This could be the beginning of a worldwide spiritual awakening (as I have said), or it may just be a fad that will soon pass. Only time will tell.

3. Inspiration: You Still Have Hope
If you can look at the sunset and smile, and find beauty in the colors of a small flower, then you still have hope.
If you can find pleasure in the movement of a butterfly, and if the smile of a child can still warm your heart, then you still have hope.
If you can see the good in other people, and if the rain breaking on a rooftop can still lull you to sleep, then you still have hope.
If the sight of a rainbow still makes you stop and stare in wonder, and if the soft fur of a favoured pet still feels pleasant under your fingertips, then you still have hope.
If you meet new people with a trace of excitement and optimism, and if you give people the benefit of the doubt, then you still have hope.
If you still offer your hand in friendship to others that have touched your life, and if receiving an unexpected card or letter still brings a pleasant surprise, then you still have hope.
If the suffering of others still fills you with pain and frustration, and if you refuse to let a friendship die, or accept that it must end, then you still have hope.
If you look forward to a time or place of quiet and reflection, and if you still watch love stories or want the endings to be happy, then you still have hope.
If you can look to the past and smile, and when faced with the bad, when told everything is futile, you can still look up and end the conversation with the phrase ... 'yes, but ....' Then you still have hope.
Hope is such a marvelous thing. It bends, it twists, it sometimes hides, but rarely does it break. It sustains us when nothing else can. It gives us reason to continue and courage to move ahead, when we tell ourselves we'd rather give in.
Hope puts a smile on our face when the heart cannot manage. Hope puts our feet on the path when our eyes cannot see it. Hope moves us to act when our souls are confused of the direction.
Hope is a wonderful thing, something to be cherished and nurtured and something that will refresh us in return. It can be found in each of us and it can bring light into the darkest of places. So never lose hope.

4. The Top 7 Signs of Self-Sabotaging Behavior by Dr. Robert Anthony
Having trouble reaching all your goals? Are you going for what you want, but feeling like something is road-blocking the way? Are you finding yourself "not" doing some of the things you know you should be doing?
You may be a victim of sabotage---self-sabotage. How do you know, and what can you do about it? Read on and see.
1. Focusing on what is not working, not right or missing from your life.
Problem: Notice how often you speak about and think about what is not working, not right, or missing from your life. This only attracts more of the things you don’t want.
Action: Ask yourself a new question: "What's going right?" or "What IS working?" Begin to notice all the things, no matter how small, that are working well. Keep an evidence journal and each day write down everything, I do mean everything, that is working and you will attract more of what is working!
2. Being stuck in fear:
Problem: Do you worry a lot about the future and what is going to happen or might happen? Are you thinking about your fears so much that you are paralyzed and take no action because of fear of what might occur?
Action: It is time to put your focus on the present. We can't control or predict the future or other people's behaviors. All we can control is our own, right here, right now.
Ask yourself the question "What is the worst thing that could happen?" Then, let go and know that rarely do the scenarios we create in our heads occur. Take a moment to put things into perspective by writing down the things you can not change, the things you want change, and accept that the Universe, God, Spirit, whatever you call it will take of the rest. It always does!
3. Feeling you have no value.
Problem: Do you forget all your accomplishments and lack pride in who you are and what you have accomplished? If you obsess about the past or your lack of success or lack of achievement, then you'll be stuck in noticing how much you lack as a person. If you often criticize yourself or can't accept compliments, it’s a definite sign that you have fallen into this trap.
Action: You can choose to notice what you do that is good and the things you can be proud of, no matter how small they may seem. Each day keep a log of what you are grateful for about YOU. When you hear your mind chattering about what you haven't done right or well, turn down the volume and turn up the volume to hear the voice that knows the TRUTH about who you are and how you add value to the world.
Acknowledge yourself for at least 5 things each and every day that you did well. Each day, compliment yourself on something you did that you feel good about. Notice your small successes and accept the compliments others give you.
4. Comparing yourself to others.
Problem: Do you constantly compare yourself to others and then feel badly when compared to them? Comparison doesn't motivate us to do more or be better, instead it makes us feel we'll never be good enough and we aren't right now.
Action: Write out the 5 qualities you like best about yourself. Then write out what you value most in your life. When you go to a place of comparison, notice how similar you are with the other person vs. what is different. Begin to create a list of adjectives that describe you - at least 25 positive words about your greatness. Whenever you notice yourself in a comparison mode, think of some of the adjectives that describe YOU.
5. Self-Sabotage – getting what you want and then losing it.
Problem: Do you not believe that you deserve to have what you want? When you get what you want, why do you often lose it or mess it up? What is the true story underneath - maybe that you think aren't good enough to have it?
Action: List all the things you have accomplished that faded away. Simply notice these things, but don’t place any judgment on the fact they disappeared. How did they bring you satisfaction? How did they make you feel? What is the limiting belief that you have that tells you inside why you can't have what you want? Be quiet, be still and listen to it.
Write down how you felt when you had what you wanted. Write down how you feel now, without it. Then write a "bridge belief": A very, very small belief that feels a little bit better than what you now feel. Each week, create a new bridge belief, not matter how small, that you can really believe. By using these bridges as stepping-stones, you'll shift your limiting beliefs slowly and be on the other side of the bridge and able to maintain it because you will have a new belief inside of you.
6. You chase away relationships.
Problem: Do you always feel something is missing in your relationships or find fault with the other person? Perhaps you are afraid of intimacy. Underneath this is usually a fear of abandonment or exposure that causes you to distance yourself from others.
Action: Create a list of the qualities you value in a relationship and the qualities you want to attract in your partners. Express what you want and don't want to the other person and allow them to express the same to you. Create time to acknowledge the other person on a regular basis. Notice when you feel afraid. Don't try to push the feelings away. Know that the feelings are there and that is fine. Then, in that moment, focus on what feels good about the relationship.
7. Having no purpose.
Problem: Do you feel you have no purpose in life? We all have some purpose for being on the planet and it is time to notice yours.
Action: Write down all the things that are important to you – the thing you want to create in your life. Then write out what you want to contribute to the world. From your writing, create a statement of purpose for yourself that you can read each and every day.
Then stop worrying about not knowing your purpose and start creating what you desire now. It doesn’t matter what you want in the future. So start creating something you want in your life NOW. This action will ultimately put you in alignment and bring you closer to your overall purpose.

Personal Thoughts on Dr. Robert Anthony’s “Know How to Be Rich” Course
Initially, I did not want to buy this course. Mainly, because I thought this would be another 'How to Get Rich' course that would simply retell everything that has already been said on this subject. But after taking
Dr. Robert Anthony's Free E-Course
I decided to give it a try.
Just as I went through the bonuses and Week 1 of the course, I realized I was completely wrong. This course not only explains everything you need to know about how to get rich, it goes beyond anything that I have ever seen anywhere else.
This 'Know How to Be Rich' course takes this subject to another level. It puts quantum physics and metaphysics together to teach you exactly step by step how to create abundant wealth in your life, or anything else for that matter. Once I used the information and specific techniques to create wealth in my life, I used them to create all kinds of things in all aspects of my life.
Whenever my financial situation begins to decline, I simply go through the course again and find out what I am doing wrong. From here, I simply fix the problem and I am experiencing abundant wealth again. There is no way that you cannot experience abundance in your life if you sincerely apply the information and techniques taught in this course.
This is the only resource you need on wealth. It covers everything that needs to be covered and even goes beyond.

6. The Mystic Way By Eugene DeFazzio
The Pursuit of Truth
From the earliest times in humanities existence there are those who continue to search for ultimate truth. Why are we here? Who are we? What is the meaning of life? Such are the questions asked by these spiritual explorers the mystics.
Now in this present time the need to answer these questions looms ever larger as our world explodes with supercilious information and dubious dialogue. Everyone has an opinion but no one has an answer.
We live in a time of unrest and conviction. Unrest in our pursuit of personal fulfillment and conviction in the traditional belief systems handed down from those who came before us.
Which Reality?
On the one hand you have those who claim that knowledge is king and that if we study enough or read enough or think enough the answers will surely come. These individuals tend to believe only what they can see. There is nothing outside of the visible universe or the world in which they live. Their faith is based on sets of rules and creeds that should never be questioned.
On the other hand there are those who, with a childlike awe, listen to the music of their spirit. These are the ones who go beyond the veil and welcome the unknown and the unknowable into their world.
Such are the Mystics, men and women throughout time who seek to glimpse the living forces moving through and around human existence. Their faith is based on the exploration of their inner selves and the mysteries they find there.
Toward the Divine
Through the ages many have endeavored to define the role they play in the cosmos. Searching within themselves and studying human nature their explorations have lead to some interesting possibilities. One such way is a psychological and spiritual journey called the Tao or the Mystic Way.
It is an adventure that culminates in the condition called identification with the divine ground, cosmic consciousness, self actualization, nirvana or spiritual conversion. An illuminating episode which may be deep or superficial, sudden or gradual resulting in the reorientation of personality into a new order of being.
A Deeper Reality
Many people have followed the Mystic Way and in spite of individual personalities the same basic processes are involved. No matter what the social or economic status of the seeker their path to enlightenment is always the same. Common to all of them is the awareness that life is larger, or deeper, or more mysterious than it appears at first glance. That's how it begins.
It begins with an innate knowledge that normal life is wrong, out of step with reality. That there exists a deeper reality than the one of which we are normally aware, an insight into something that does not appear on the surface. A mysterious longing to find that place of being where we are at peace with ourselves and the cosmos.
Remember when you stood on that high place or at the seaside or in a forest and felt something stirring inside you, a subtle joy and a feeling and an awareness that you could not describe but none the less somehow felt that you understood. A sense of belonging to something greater than yourself and at the same time being a part of it, this is the threshold of the Mystic Way.
Revelation
If the desire to know is great enough and we are diligent in the pursuit of understanding this enigma, in time, there comes a moment of great revelation and illumination. Sometimes this is a gradual process and often occurs without our knowledge in the deep recesses of our soul. Or, maybe it bursts forth in an episode of illuminating brilliance. However it manifests itself here is a sense of joy which seems to lift us out of ourselves.
Then follows a state of peace and harmony that words are barely able to describe, a perception of power and a personality integration, we become one with the cosmos and ourselves. We feel a sense of harmony, peace and a release from the historic and genetic bonds that bind us. We become ourselves, the way we were meant to be. For that moment we are life risen to a higher power.
This is the point at which most people stop. Refreshed by this experience they return to their lives with a new perspective and a better understanding of themselves and the world around them. However, in time, the pressures and pursuits of life dim the memory of this event and eventually it fades into the background noise of day to day existence.
The Path to Enlightenment
The mystic is constantly striving to subdue the old nature and replace it with the new pattern. Having experienced the infinite the mystics can not be satisfied with life as they knew it before. This paradox becomes a driving force, a quest if you will, toward a closer union with this nameless reality. They wish to posses this new found truth and become one with it.
The trek toward the light leads through what many mystics call the "dark night of the soul". A time of recurring darkness in the mind and depression of the spirit that can go on for years. A time of questioning everything yet never quite finding any answers. The memory of their moment of enlightenment is the sole force that drives them on, but even this eludes them.
Then in the fullness of time a new order begins to emerge. The pieces of the cosmic puzzle begin to fall into place. Understanding replaces confusion and with it comes a new view of reality. Personality changes shape and soon a new inner harmony takes root, this time forever. For the rest of their lives the mystic maintains that sense of peace and power that began their quest. This is the goal of the Mystic Way.
Reaching the Summit
Like that first moment of revelation, no matter if it is sudden or slow, the mystic makes the leap into a new and permanent pattern of being. Peace and inner harmony lead to new and exciting insights into themselves. Their vision is so vast that perspective does not allow them to see themselves as anything but a poor representative of something much greater than themselves. It is this that makes divine growth possible. From here forward the mystic is involved in the active attempt to conform to this great mystery, to mold themselves into the divine.
It is possible that we humans have powers of which we are only barely aware. Our lives are full of signs that such powers and possibilities do exist. It would be a tragedy for the human spirit to stifle such musings. We can never become what we were meant to be living with the dogma of a flat cosmos. Human life may well be a far more enhanced, magnificent, and subtler endeavor than we yet realize.
