2. New Age Practices

Welcome to part IV of the New Age Series. Today’s section is called “New Age Practices”. If you are new, or have missed any other previous sections you should read them here: New Age Movement New age people take part in a variety of practices. These could include anything from reading a book on personal growth to such things as channeling. Although the average New Ager takes part in more eastern practices, it is not uncommon for them to take part in many western practices as well. Their activities are not only involved with the paranormal or the religious as many people think.

Any practice that is done for the greater good can be considered a new age activity. All new age practices are dedicated to helping the environment and the entire universe.

The biggest activity that new agers take part in, is obtaining information on personal growth and metaphysics/spirituality. They get information from seminars, conventions, books and informal groups. Everyday, more and more people are flocking to metaphysical bookstores and lectures by spiritual teachers.

Specific New Age Practices for You to Sample

Below I will list and define a few common new age practices, from which you can pick and choose which ones you would feel right doing. Remember, only do what feels right to you. If none of these resonates with you, then search for some more, as this is just a small list for you to sample.

A typical new age practioner will usually take part in a few of these areas:

Channeling: Becoming a medium through which a non-physical entity can give information and support through.

Meditation: The act of simply being, instead of doing. It is a contemplative discourse, in which you try to clear your mind.

Yoga: a system of exercises practiced as part of the Hindu discipline to promote control of the body and mind

Astrology: The study of the positions and aspects of celestial bodies in the belief that they have an influence on the course of natural earthly occurrences and human affairs.

New Age Music: a category for music that tends to be spiritual and contemplative in nature

Divination: The art or act of foretelling future events or revealing occult knowledge by means of augury or an alleged supernatural agency.

Holistic Health: As defined by Wikipedia, holistic health is a non-medical philosophy of well-being that considers the physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of life as closely interconnected and balanced. Advocates of the holistic health philosophy typically seek or use a wide variety of alternative practices, the most common of which include acupuncture, chiropractic, naturopathy, yoga, aromatherapy, Cannabis cultivation and homeopathy

Shamanism: As defined by Wikipedia, a range of traditional beliefs and practices similar to Animism that claim the ability to diagnose and cure human suffering and, in some societies, the ability to cause suffering. Shamans have been credited with the ability to control the weather, divination, the interpretation of dreams, astral projection, and traveling to upper and lower worlds. Shamanistic traditions have existed throughout the world since prehistoric times.

Reiki: a system of hands-on touching based on the belief that such touching by an experienced practitioner produces beneficial effects by strengthening and normalizing certain vital energy fields held to exist within the body

Energy Work: a general term based on the idea that the human body consists of energy fields that can be stimulated through various techniques in order to promote wellness.

Astral Travel: This is the ability to leave your body while it is sleeping. Basically, being conscious as you are dreaming. From here you get visit other vibrational levels (dimensions).

Developing ESP Abilities: Developing abilities through which you are able to communicate and perceive by means other than the physical senses.

So, there you have it, a list of common new age practices. But, in no way is this a full list, so don’t feel bad if an activity that you consider new age is not on here. There are probably millions of practices I could have put here.

Now, I challenge you to try some of these activities and ideas. Do a little more research and see where you are guided. When you find something that resonates with you, stick with it!

3. Inspiration: A Brother’s Song

Like any good mother, when Karen found out that another baby was on the way, she did what she could to help her 3-year-old son, Michael, prepare for a new sibling.

They found out that the new baby was going be a girl, and day after day, night after night, Michael sang to his sister in his mommy's tummy. He was building a bond of love with the baby before he even met her.

The pregnancy progressed normally for Karen, and in time, the labor pains came. Soon it was every five minutes, every three, then every minute.

But serious complications arose during delivery and Karen found herself in hours of labor. Would a C-section be required? Finally, after a long struggle, Michael's little sister was born.

But she was in very serious condition. With a siren howling in the night, the ambulance rushed the infant to the neonatal intensive care unit at St. Mary's Hospital, Knoxville, Tennessee.

The days inched by. The little girl got worse. The pediatric specialist told the parents, "There is little hope. Be prepared for the worst."

Karen and her husband contacted a local cemetery about a burial plot. The had fixed up a special room in their home for the new baby, but now they found themselves having to plan for a funeral. Michael, however, kept begging his parents to let him see his sister. "I want to sing to her," he said.

After two weeks in intensive care, it looked as if a funeral would come before the week was over. Michael kept nagging about singing to his sister, but kids are rarely allowed in Intensive Care.

Karen made up her mind. She decided to take Michael whether they liked it or not. If he didn't see his sister right then, he may never see her alive. She dressed him in an oversized scrub suit and marched him into ICU.

He looked like a walking laundry basket. The head nurse recognized him as a child and bellowed, "Get that kid out of here now. No children are allowed."

The mother instinct rose up strong in Karen, and the usually mild-mannered lady glared steel-eyed right into the head nurse's face, her lips a tight line. "He is not leaving until he sings to his sister," she stated firmly.

Then Karen towed Michael to his sister's bedside. He gazed at the tiny infant losing the battle to live. After a moment, he began to sing. In the pure-hearted voice of a 3-year-old, Michael sang: "You are my sunshine, my only sunshine, you make me happy when skies are gray."

Instantly the baby girl seemed to respond. Her pulse rate began to calm down and become steady. "Keep on singing, Michael," encouraged Karen with tears in her eyes.

"You never know, dear, how much I love you, please don't take my sunshine away." As Michael sang to his sister, the baby's ragged, strained breathing became as smooth as a kitten's purr. "Keep on singing, sweetheart," whispered his mother.

"The other night, dear, as I lay sleeping, I dreamed I held you in my arms..." Michael's little sister began to relax as rest — healing rest — seemed to sweep over her.

"Keep on singing, Michael." Tears had now conquered the face of the bossy head nurse. Karen glowed with wonder.

"You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. Please don't take my sunshine away..." The next, day, the very next day, the little girl was well enough to go home. The medical staff called it a miracle.

Love is so incredibly powerful ... To the world you may be one person, but to one person you may be the world!

4. Fields of Probability=Fields of Opportunity by Mary Mageau

In these current times many wonderful avenues of learning and information are making themselves freely available to us. New ideas about personal growth and dynamic forms of spiritual development can now be accessed through a plethora of seminars, workshops, classes, books, magazines, CDs and the internet. Seek out these new opportunities and be prepared to step away from your traditional comfort zone, as many of these new practices will contribute beneficially and positively to the raising of your consciousness. Greater knowledge and positive experience begets a growing awareness, which always leads into an expanded state of consciousness.

One of the cutting edge avenues of learning from the new syntheses of spirituality and science is a discipline known as spiritual quantum physics. But first - an amazing truth is understood by all scientists who work in the field of quantum physics. In this knowledge nature’s invisible energy: subatomic photons, electrons and atoms moves through space in waves, just the way that we would visualize a wave in the ocean. They all move in that fashion until someone observes them. But when someone watches, the wave collapses and a particle, the smallest bit of matter, appears to pop out of nothing. Only when the electron or photon is observed does this occur. If no one is watching the wave form exists until someone looks and then the particle exists. Physicist John Wheeler states that it is only the presence of conscious observers in the form of ourselves that has collapsed the wave function and made the universe exist. Without the observer there can be nothing!

This collapse of the wave function happens to all atoms, electrons and photons, the smallest building blocks of matter. Within us the wave function of atoms, electrons and photons collapses whenever we watch, observe or meditate. Science says that the electron waves on earth collapse because the entire universe is looking. Stephen Hawking then makes the startling statement that there must actually be something outside the universe to look at the universe which collapses its wave functions. You look at yourself, the universe looks at you, - but who is looking at the universe?

In 1957 at Long Island’s Brookhaven National Laboratory what could be the most unheralded event of the previous century occurred. Two Chinese Nobel Prize physicists with Madame Wu proved that consciousness exists in matter. This exceptional team tested and proved that radioactive cobalt can distinguish left from right. In the emission of its electrons the cobalt appears to be able to make a choice between which direction it will take. The conclusion suggests that there may well be a universal mind pervading all sub-atomic particles from deep within all matter. What a wonderful support this is for the idea that our planet, with all her myriad life forms, is herself a conscious living and self-sustaining entity.

When doing experiments at the microcosmic level scientists found that their thoughts and presence in the lab influenced the experiment. If they hoped for a positive result to the experiment and were present during it, this is the result they achieved. When they did the exact experiment again, and wished for a negative result, the result was negative. Thus it seems that awareness directs thought and thought directs life-energy. Today our theoretical physicists all believe that the universe is both conscious and supremely intelligent and that our thoughts and observations can and do influence its unfolding. We are not all here by chance and there is a magnificent intelligence overseeing and interpenetrating all of existence.

We may find that theorizing about this subject seems to make it seem coldly intellectual and perhaps we long for some empirical evidence that would also prove its conclusions. Is there something tangible and physical that we can actually see or touch that will prove, beyond a doubt, this very premise of a conscious universe?

A New Study of Water

Through the visionary work and photographs of Dr Masuro Emoto further evidence is now available to support this belief. Dr Emoto has provided us with factual evidence that human vibrational energy: thoughts, words, ideas and even music (expressed through our consciousness) can affect and change the molecular structure of water.

Water comprises over 70% of a mature human body and covers the same amount of our planet. This very source of life is a perfect conductor. Its malleable substance and fluid physical shape adapts to whatever environment is present. In addition the energy or vibrations of the environment also change the molecular shape of water. Dr Emoto has been visually documenting these molecular changes by means of his unique photographic techniques. He first freezes droplets of water and then examines them under a dark field microscope that has photographic capabilities. His outstanding work clearly exemplifies the diversity of the molecular construction of water and the effect of the environment and consciousness upon the very structure of water itself.

Dr Emoto has revealed how crystals formed in frozen water change when specific, concentrated thoughts are directed toward them. He found that water which has been exposed to loving words and emotions shows brilliant, complex crystalline patterns, but water exposed to negative words and emotions forms incomplete, asymmetrical patterns. Water from pure and unpolluted sources presents exquisitely beautiful crystalline forms, as represented in the photo of a pearl like crystal above. This frozen droplet was sourced from the Sambu–ichi Yusi spring, one of the purest sources of water in Japan. Melted snow runs off the peaks of Yatsugatake and seeps into the ground to emerge as spring water. In Dr Emoto’s next experiment a droplet of water from the Fujiwara Dam, which is becoming heavily polluted, showed an incomplete scattered pattern. Dr Emoto invited a Buddhist lama to pray over the water and the bottom photo reveals an elegant and complex crystalline pattern that emerged after the prayer had been completed. The implications of Dr Emoto’s work are truly extraordinary but what exactly do these striking images teach us? Dr Emoto tells us, “I always stress that energy is vibrations (hado) and vibrations are life. Words too are vibrations and ancient peoples knew that everything began with vibrations of life, light and sound. Water is a medium that receives and understands the subtlest of vibrations. The negative emotions from our thoughts, words or music prevent water from crystallizing. But positive emotions allow it to develop into beautiful hexagonal crystalline shapes. I believe it is our responsibility to protect and purify the water of our Earth. Through love and gratitude our consciousness will purify all water and by this means we will send messages of beauty and strength to all of life. If all people of the Earth could feel and express love and gratitude, the pristine beauty of our Earth could once again return.”

At this present time the scarcity of water within so much of Australia and much of the world is becoming an acute agricultural and environmental problem. It is of vital importance that we treat all water with respect by avoiding the wasteful use of this precious commodity. We must also begin to work with all forms of energy in a more thoughtful way. In future times it’s very likely that groups of people will gather regularly at public reservoirs, lakes, dams and population water supply centres - there to perform ritual prayers and loving meditations for maintaining the crystal purity of water. In your own home why not pour a glass of water and before drinking it say gently over the glass, “I appreciate you, for you give me life. Thank you, water, for your gifts to us and to the Earth.” As our human awareness expands, develops and matures we will all begin to co-create and co-partner more consciously with the Great Creator. We will achieve this by actively and responsibly maintaining life’s rich natural bounty. And also in the future we will not require all of our present paraphernalia of external technology. Since our conscious thoughts and feelings create and reflect our reality, we ourselves may become the source of a new future technology.

Interacting Consciously With Probability Fields Since we have been given the power to actually co-create and influence our own existence why do we so often fail to achieve the results that we desire? Is it the structure and formulation of our very thoughts themselves that are the major contributing factor? Every single thought commands a creative change in life’s experiences and collectively adds to the creative consciousness of humanity’s ultimate reality. The quantum universe allows for multiple parallel realities to exist simultaneously, to accommodate our many various individual thought selections. Every time we formulate a clearly focused thought intention, we select that particular probability field which we will then experience.

We are constantly interacting with probability fields and when we become clear about the end results we prefer to experience, our thoughts will immediately interact with the energies that are already in motion. Perhaps there is a difficult experience unfolding and if so, you can interact in an instant and initiate the vision of a different outcome. You are never without power in any moment. Remember too that if a strong emotion accompanies your thought, the faster its results will return to you. Through the process of Master Minding you can take the conscious steps to deliberately manifest more of what you want and choose to experience.

Master Minding is not about striving for perfection in each moment but it’s about fine tuning the future you want to experience by using your power. What course do you want to manifest in the immediate future? You choose and create it by ‘seeing’ a different outcome. The ‘how’ of this will reveal itself either as an inspired action to take, or will arrive as something different from what you initially thought would occur.

Think of all your future realities as one immensely shimmering, dancing probability field. If you sense a glimmer of a future you do not want to happen, recognize that you are part of this field, make a conscious decision not to experience it and know that you can successfully co-create the outcome you desire. An interesting example of this process comes from the Louisa Rhines collection, Hidden Channels of the Mind. In it a seasoned soldier of WWI noticed that every time one of his buddies reported having a hunch that his ‘number was up,’ he was unfortunately proved to be correct. Usually he was seriously wounded or killed shortly thereafter. When this soldier had a foreboding that he was in for a hit he worked hard to shake the feeling. Try as he might was unable to shake it off so he began to readjust his thoughts about the probable event. He tells us, “I began to hope in my mind that I would not be crippled so as to be a burden to anyone. Over and over I mentally rejected wounds to this and that part of my body, until finally I settled for a flesh wound in the back of my left shoulder.” Two days later the soldier sighted a small knoll he had been ordered to take and recognized that this was the place where ‘it’ would happen. Shortly after the battle began he took a hit. A piece of shrapnel had made a severe cut in the back of his left shoulder.

We can all Master Mind the best and most positive outcomes for ourselves and others. By envisioning clearly and consciously we can protect ourselves and loved ones while we bring about probable futures that provide pathways for all our highest experiences and growth. It’s only ignorance and fear that leads us into accepting and experiencing future events that don’t always include our best interests. We have free will either to do as the world wants us to do, or to consciously change a particular future to reflect what we or our higher guidance would rather have us experience.

Thus our own consciousness constructs our reality, both individually and collectively. We create everything we perceive outside of ourselves from our personal relationships to the workings of our societies. Within this context our present reality acts as a mirror faithfully reflecting back to us all of our own creations. If we perceive something in this mirror that does not please us, we must take responsibility for it, then think and act creatively to effect a positive change. Within our quantum universe we have been given the powerful gift of free will which allows us become a co-creator. Now we must develop the spiritual maturity and wisdom to proactively take charge of our lives and our world. We must keep our vision and focus on the highest goal so as to interact more powerfully with the future that we choose to experience. And we will succeed, by consciously working individually and collectively, to create our best and finest world.

5. Recommended Resource:

This issue's recommended resource is the 6-Book Collection written by Baird T. Spalding, titled “Life and Teaching of the Masters of The Far East”. These books very interesting and very informative at the same time.

I was searching around at the local metaphysical store when I saw this collection. There is nothing physical about them that really made them stand out to me. But, I had a very strong intuition that I needed to buy them. I did not have my wallet with me, so I could not buy them. I also wasn’t able to get the website address of the publishing company because it was inside the books, and the box they came in had a plastic seal.

I was still very curious about the books, and asked the lady who was working at the store if she knew anything about them. She started to laugh, as she was holding one of the books in her hand behind the counter. She told me that she had recently bought them and was currently on book 3. She let me look through her book, and I found it to be fascinating. I proceeded to get the publishing companie’s website from her book.

The moment I got home, I searched for information on the books on the Internet, but I didn’t find much. I found out that the books were available on Amazon, so I immediately ordered them. Since then, I have read the entire collection of books 3 times, and I am absolutely in love with them.

They are about a group of people who travel to the east, and find some people that they call “masters” who are “spiritually advanced” (sorry, I couldn’t think of a better term). These masters are able to access their amazing abilities, and understand the true nature of themselves. These books completely expand your imagination on what is possible. I really recommend you check them out, you can learn more about them here: Lives and Teachings of the Masters of the Far East 6-Book Collection

6. What Is New at www.whatismetaphysics.com ?

I put up a new article in the Reality section of the website. It is titled "What Is, IS?" you can read it here: What Is, IS?
