The Next Phase in Human Evolution: The Abolishment of Organized Religion

I would assume that most of the people reading this have already abolished organized religion in their own personal lives. In this issue, I will explore how this shift is key for the future of humanity.

Evidence of how organized religion is becoming thought of as less authoritative in our society is everywhere. Two key resources/people in our present-day society that have had a big impact on creating this shift in many individuals (including myself) are:

1. The book: The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins
2. The movie: Religulous by Bill Maher

Whether or not you have been exposed to these key resources, in this issue of Metaphysical Mind I would like to explain how each of these gems have broken down the false authority of organized religion in our society.

First, in The God Delusion, Richard Dawkins lays out all the rational arguments for, and against, religion. Dawkins then systematically attacks each and every possible argument for religion using nothing more than rational thinking and logic.

On page 283, he quotes Nobel Prize-winning American physicist Steven Weinberg as saying, Religion is an insult to human dignity. With or without it, you'd have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, it takes religion.

The clearness with which Dawkins expresses these ideas are profound and untainted by our barbaric society. The fact that this book became an international bestseller shows how humanity is shifting away from organized religion.

Organized Religion, which is a key root of evil in our society, took a beating by Bill Maher in his movie "Religulous". According to Maher, the title of the film is a portmanteau derived from the words "religion" and "ridiculous"; the documentary examines and satirizes organized religion and religious belief.

To a rational mind, organized religion is absolutely absurd. This movie is very funny and entertaining. I loved to see a comedian point out the true absurdities of organized religion. I was also so glad to see his unrelenting and open challenges to the dogma of religion.

Although it was a very funny movie, it wasn't till I finished watching this movie that I realized the important shift this movie has the potential to create in people. If you haven't already seen it, you should definitely check it out because it is hilarious!

I am grateful to these two resources for all of humanity. Both have done very important work in beginning the abolishment of religion from our society. Organized religion is becoming thought of as less authoritative and this is key for the next phase of human evolution.
